Five foot long tubs are relatively easy to install and are adequate in terms of size for most people. If taller people will be using the tub regularly, you should look for a tub at least six feet long. When going shopping, take your shoes off and sit inside the tub to see whether it is comfortable.

You may also need to reinforce the floor beneath the tub to provide support if you install a heavy tub, especially one that is made of cast iron. The plumbing will need to be reconfigured if your old tub has a wall-mounted faucet and the new tub has a deck-mounted spout. If you have a septic tank, it may not be able to handle the demands of a whirlpool, so be sure to consult a plumber.
